Understanding Promotion Code Restrictions

To keep promotions running smoothly and ensure fair access for all customers, a few rules apply to how promotion codes work.

Automatic Inactivation After 90 Days

Promotion codes that haven’t been used in 90 days will automatically become inactive.

  • If you update a promotion code (for example, change the discount or limit), the 90-day timer resets.

  • Once inactive, the promotion code can’t be applied to new orders until it’s reactivated.

Usage Limits and Cart Behavior

Each time a promotion code is added to a cart, it counts as a use.

  • Promotion codes in abandoned carts will automatically be returned after a short period, so they can be used again.

  • This helps prevent codes from being “held” indefinitely and keeps them available for active customers.

We recommend setting an expiration date on all promotion codes.

  • This ensures promotions end as planned and prevents outdated codes from circulating.

  • If a promotion needs to continue, you can always clone or recreate the code with new dates.

Inactive Code Notices

If a promotion code becomes inactive, you’ll see an information banner explaining why.

  • For example, the code may have been unused for 90 days or reached its usage limit.

  • This message makes it easy to understand the reason and take action if needed.
